Haginosuke (CV: Takahiro Mizushima) is still the typical genki student of the class who has an obsession with befriending Ayakashi. He’s very open about his relationship with Rin not to mention being デレデレ as he possibly can.
It’s March and the start of spring. Uta and Tsuzuri race each other to the shrine and they encounter Hagi, Kami-sama, and Suou there. Uta and Suou argue as usual. It’s then Yomi realizes they’re interrupting valuable Hagi and Rin time so he decides to force everyone to leave the two to have some alone time. Rin doesn’t realize why they left the two of them but Hagi knows they’re being considerate of them. This confuses Rin and Hagi grabs Rin’s hand to remind her that they’re lovers and Rin’s like “Oh, that’s right…” Hagi says he can’t believe it’s already been a month since they started dating. Rin gets all embarrassed when he holds her hand and Hagi teases her that after kissing her she should be able to handle hand holding lol. As Suou and Uta continue to argue in the distance, Rin apologizes for hiding the fact that they’re all Ayakashi. But Hagi knows she must’ve had her reasons and doesn’t mind it. In fact, he finds it amazing he’s around so many Ayakashi. It’s then he realizes that “Kami-sama” is indeed… Kami-sama. And gets all flustered for how impolite he’s acted towards him. Hagi then asks if she thinks they can become more happy together and Rin says she does. They then realize everyone is watching them act all デレデレ towards each other and Hagi’s like “ooh, nice to see all the support!”
So the new school term is starting and they’re all third years. Hagi comes expressively to walk to Rin since it’s their first day of their new school year. Uta and Yomi tease that it’s getting hot in here and if they wanna イチャイチャ they’ll just go on ahead. So they walk hand-in-hand to school while Rin is still embarrassed by it. Rin and Haginosuke greet their classmates and then Hagi asks Rin to come over to him. It’s then he makes an official announcement to the entire class that him and Rin are dating LOL. Rin’s in shock and gets completely flustered that he’d tell the entire class like that. everyone starts clapping ((like evangelion)) and congratulates the two of them. When Rin asks why Hagi told everyone earlier he says he wanted to boast about his new girlfriend.
That day they all go to Ponpokorin in order to have a delicious meal. And so they all make Bibimbap (a korean dish) in the kitchen together. So they all eat together and Rin notices that Hagi has food stuck on his cheek and takes it off for him. Haginosuke then takes it off her finger and eats it lol. All of a sudden everyone starts questioning why Hagi isn’t so surprised that everyone is an Ayakashi but he says he kind of suspected something was up anyway. And even if they’re Ayakashi, that doesn’t change the fact that they’re friends. Later that day everyone is playing outside until they decide to go home. Rin walks Hagi home and encounters an Ayakashi that says they’re on their way to marriage. Rin then mentions that Hagi’s no longer on his Ayakashi search but Hagi tells her it’s because his dream of meeting Ayakashi has already been fulfilled. Not only that but he also can’t see them anyway.
The next day at Ponpokorin they find Kei visiting. Apparently tonight’s the night where the moon is beautifully reflected on the water of the brook. Which was how Kei was made into an Ayakashi when he was still a firefly and made a wish to the moon. Though not a lot of Ayakashi believe in it realizing one’s wish. Gin then states that the power near the brook only chooses those worthy of it’s power so it must’ve been fond of Kei. Rin believed something like this would interest Hagi so she decided to tell him about it. Hagi being Hagi is obviously interested in going to see it. He tells Rin that even if his wish isn’t fulfilled, he would love to see the moonlight reflect the water. He also thinks of inviting everyone else as well and basically forces them to go.
And so they all visit the creek together and it’s unusually noisy since there’s a lot of other Ayakashi there as well. Hagi thanks Kei for showing them this and Kei realizes that he can’t see him or the other Ayakashi. They walk further into the creek and everyone starts making their own wishes. It’s the surface of the water begins to glow though no one but Hagi notices. Suddenly a burst of light flows into Haginosuke’s eyes. It starts a bit of a commotion so they run off from the creek. Rin then notices the silhouette of a cherry blossom petal in Haginosuke’s eye. He then reaches out to touch Kei and he realizes he can see him. So the change that occurs is that Hagi can now see Ayakashi because of the wish he made at the creek. But just in case, they believe they should get Hagi a check up so there’s no other abnormalities to his body.
So they take Hagi to Gin and get him to check up on Hagi. They assure them that there’s nothing wrong with him. But since symptoms could always show later, Manatsu says he’ll give him daily check-ups here and there. They have no idea how this occured but Hagi couldn’t be happier about it since it’s something he’s longed for. Kei apologizes to Hagi for what happened but he pays no mind to it. It’s then they officially introduce themselves to each other. And before Hagi leaves Yomi warns Hagi not to excessively call out to Ayakashi now that he can see them. Rin walks Hagi back home and apologizes for inviting him. Though as he mentioned before, he’s glad to be able to see Ayakashi. But either way she assures him to tell her if there’s ever something wrong cause he’ll be sure to protect him. Hagi laughs and jokes she’s the man in the relationship now lol. But he promises to tell her if there’s something wrong.
The next morning they spot Hagi speaking with an Ayakashi and helping it out. Yomi warns him as he did yesterday to not speak with Ayakashi so excessively. That Ayakashi may have been an exception but there’s no telling when one of them may be dangerous. Hagi tells him he understands that but he can’t help but help an ayakashi in need. He knows he’s just looking out for him though and thanks Yomi. At school Hagi suddenly notices the two smash Ayakashi Zashikiwarashi and Hitotsumekozou and yells out how cute they are. People notice him scream out to nothing and so Uta has to tell him to be careful lol.
It was finally June and everyone changed to their summer clothing. On their way back from school, Rin goes with Hagi to get a check-up on his eye with Manatsu. Thankfully, all is normal and Rin is relieved. Manatsu makes sure to tell him to be wary of other Ayakashi though like Yomi had said. Manatsu says she looks lovely in her summer uniform and Hagi’s all salty he didn’t get to say so first lol. Though after Manatsu leaves he’s sure to tell she looks super cute in her uniform. He then asks where she’d like go together and suggests the beach since he’d love to see her in her bathing suit. Rin gets embarrassed and feels a tug at her hand. She thought it was Hagi at first but apparently it was the two Ayakashi again. They’re glad Hagi can see them and suggest they play hide-and-seek together. They play rock-paper-scissors to determine who’ll play the seeker and Hagi loses so he has to start counting while they all hide. Rin goes all the way up to the creek to hide and Kei calls out to her. Apparently he’d noticed an injured Okuriinu Ayakashi. It’s then Hagi finds Rin and he notices the injured Ayakashi. He suggest using a medical kit but apparently they need a medical herb that’s effective for Ayakashi. So Rin goes to get it and brings it back to Kei who mixes up an an antidote. The Ayakashi gets scared and starts growling but Hagi is able to calm him down as Kei applies the medicine. Apparently the Ayakashi was injured by a human child. Apparently humans have always done things like this like moving the mountains and driving aykashi from their homes. Anyway, Kei decides to look after the Ayakashi until it’s better enough to go off on it’s own. On their way back they decide to see the Ayakashi every day to check up on it’s condition.
The next morning Rin finds Hagi at the creek where the Ayakashi is. Apparently he’s much better than he was and Hagi fed him a rice ball. Kei also learned that the name of the Ayakashi is Sui. Both Rin and Hagi introduce themselves to Sui and ask to be friends and Sui nods. The next day after schol they visit the brook again in order to play with Sui. They have fun throwing pebbles at the water to see how far they go. Afterwords, Rin tells Yomi about how they met Sui. Yomi is sceptical about it since he kept telling Hagi to not to involve himself with Ayakashi so much. Gin thinks it should be fine though as long as Kei is with them. Rin then asks about a food they can make for an Ayakashi and Gin suggests pound cake. So Gin helps both Rin and Hagi make pound cake for Sui.
The next day they present the pound cake to Sui as an reward for his recovery. And so they all share the pound cake together. Afterwords both Rin and Hagi think about trying to find Sui’s family since he’s almost fully recovered. Though Rin believes Suou should know since she encountered one with him before. Rin then manages to get Suou to meet her the next day in her room. She asks where Okuriinu gather and Suou looks at her with confusion. He mentions how she was attacked by one before so doesn’t get why she’d want to find out where they are. Though Rin just tells him he wants to help return a young one and will make Suou food in return. Once food is mentioned Suou automatically agrees to help her out and lead her to where it is. And so, Suou leads both Hagi and Rin to the spot where they gather. They find many of them there but Rin tries to speak with them. She tells them that one of their companions got lost and they took care of him. They tell them that he smells of humans and it’s disgraceful that he’s indebted to a human and tells them to leave. Rin begs again but they refuse. Even Haginosuke tries to convince them, but they say that Sui is not one of them not that he’s disgraced himself. Since they won’t leave at once, they begin to try and attack. Suou tells Hagi and Rin to run but Hagi doesn’t move. He talks to the elder again and insists they take Sui. Hagi explains that Sui was separated and attacked by a human. He explains how family is important and he should be with his own. Hagi begs them and finally, they all go silent. It’s then one of the Okuriinu Ayakashi appear and Sui runs up to him. Suou tells them that it’s his father. And so they finally agree to take him in this one time. Suou tells them that Sui was very thankful to Rin and Hagi and was glad to meet them both. So, they all leave as Sui goes off with his own family. Rin then lectures Hagi for being so reckless and Suou agrees. Though he admits that Rin had done the same thing before so they’re mutually idiots lol.
Soon it was July and Hagi came up with a great idea of observing Ayakashi to write a book. Rin wants to try signing up for the study training camp in August. She’s really looking forward to it surprisingly and so is Haginosuke. The rest of the group doesn’t care at all for it and would rather not waste their special summer break. Though they make sure to make plans for the summer festival of course. The morning of summer break Rin meets Hagi at the shrine. They then go up to the brook and remember when Hagi made the wish there. Kei seems a bit distracted through and when they ask if anything’s wrong he says he just remembers Yume whenever summer comes around. Though they’ve heard the story before of when a woman fell in love with Kei as a firefly. Since it happened in summer, it’s a bit of a painful reminder to Kei. Hagi then all of a sudden pushes Kei into the water in order to refresh his poor soul lol. It startled Kei but apparently he found it to be fun. Hagi tells him instead of feeling lonely, he should make a lot of memories while he can. Hagi mentions he’ll help but Kei reminds him he should be studying and Rin lectures Hagi to not forget about their exams.
It was the first week of August and the study training camp had begun. After their long study session, Hagi suggests they all have a test of courage. They’ll go in pairs with girl and guy and stay on campus. Once they all head out they get terrified by some unnatural phenomenons but its actually just Yomi, Uta, Suou, Kei and the two other Ayakashi. Afterwords Hagi tells all of them to go home since they did a job well done. They return to the class to find Kei there and suddenly hear another sound. Rin assumes it’s another Ayakashi he hired but Kei admits he’s the only one left. They then search the classroom and find a unrecognisable woman there. Kei calls out the name “Yume” but apparently her name is Mari. She lives with her grandfather and finds there’s nothing to do since her smartphone is useless in the village. So while she was exploring the village, she decided to slip into the school. Though she found the school to be way too old-fashioned. She’s very blunt and wonders what the three of them are doing there anyway. It’s then Rin realizes she says “three” and that confirms that she can see Kei. Mari is all of a sudden interested in him since his body is slightly shining.
She’s completely intrigued and asks what sort of mechanism or trick he’s using. Kei is completely bewildered and Rin explains that it’s no trick and Kei is an Ayakashi. Mari is sceptical about it at first but then she’s all “AMAZING!!” she starts asking about other Ayakashi and notices the two others. They run away from her and she then chases after them leaving the classroom. Rin comments that she was very energetic and should learn from her. But Hagi is all “OH, I like you the way you are” which embarrasses Rin. They ask Kei why they called her “Yume” and apparently her hair and face resembled Yume. Though her personality was completely different than Mari’s, infact it was the opposite.
One day after Rin and Hagi’s training camp they find Mari at the gate. She wants Rin and Hagi to teach her more about Ayakashi since she’s has a huge interest in them now. Rin and Hagi tell them someone named Manatsu should know more about that stuff since he’s a Onmyoji. This completely interests Mari and she literally pushes Hagi to show her where he is. Soon they arrive there to find both Manatsu and Kami-sama. They introduce Mari and she gives Manatsu a good look before saying “He looks unreliable” leaving Manatsu to laugh awkwardly. Hagi then introduces Kami-sama and she’s all “This dwarf is Kami-sama!!?” and so she asks one of them to tell her about Ayakashi. She asks a multitude of questions about them like where to meet them and how many there are. They tell her that they coexist with humans in the village and more than likely exist outside of the village as well. And so Mari decides that while she’s staying in this village, she’s going to go on a hunt for Ayakashi and she wants Hagi and Rin to guide her. So she asks them to guide her to where the shining Ayakashi is, also known as, Kei.
So she forcibly gets them to show her where he is. Mari all “I found you shining Ayakashi!!” and Kei flinches in fear and runs away lol. Mari runs after him and catches him. She asks why he’s not shining now and it’s because he’s a firefly Ayakashi and he only glows at night. Mari realizes this is his usual spot so tells him she’ll come visit to play everyday. Kei’s all iffy about it and Mari forgets his name again so he tells her it’s Kei again. She starts asking him what he eats and if he eats human food. He wonders why she’s asking all these questions and she says cause she wants to be friends with him. He wonders why and she says when she first say him glowing she thought he looked really beautiful. She asks if he’ll become friends with her and he’s all hesitant so she’s all “Will you or not?” and Kei’s all “I-I will…!” ((it’s so adorable omg)). And so since she hadn’t really made any friends here yet she’s glad to meet all of them. So she decides to go look for more Ayakashi and makes Kei come with her by pulling him along.
Hagi and Rin continue to study over the break. And so while they’re studying at Hagi’s place, Mari barges in along with Kei saying that they’re gonna go search for more Ayakashi. Hagi tells them they should focus on their studies and so she gives up on the spot. So it’s just Kei and Mari, though Kei is obviously unwilling, Mari pretty much terrifies him so she manages to make him tag along with her. Later that day Mari makes great progress in finding Ayakashi. And so they all eat different flavors of ice-cream together. They notice a commotion since the summer festival is coming up. Mari absolutely wants to go and when she asks if Kei’s coming, he hesitates and she’s literally like “YOU’RE. COMING. RIIIIGHT???” which terrifies Kei so he agrees to come.
On Rin and Hagi’s way back, Mari asks Rin how long she knew about Ayakashi. Rin tells her that she only found out about their existence 10 years ago when she moved to the village. She wasn’t fond of them at first but learned to change and they grew on her. Rin asks if she could always see Ayakashi and she says she couldn’t, not until she was on the brink of death that is. This shocks Rin and Hagi and apparently Mari had always been frail when she was young. She was always admitted to hospitals and had many operations on her. But no matter how many times she was operated on she’d never recover. And finally when she lost consciousness, and was on the brink of death, she had a dream. And in that dream someone was holding her hand and telling her it’s going to be okay. It was after she was relieved from those words she came back to reality. It’s then she was able to see Ayakashi. But apparently when she told this story, her family and friends began to fear and feel bad her. They thought she was starting to see illusions since she was so close to death. She hated being seen that way with no one to talk to. Yet when she came to this village, Rin and Hagi made it seem so normal to see mysterious spirits such as Ayakashi. Even Kei who is always anxious when she’s around happily listens to her when she speaks to him. She’s glad she can make more memories and it makes her feel less lonely about having to return to the hospital. Her next operation is to cure her illness and may be her last since there’s a chance she may die. But she made lots of friends and is going to do her best in order to make sure she can return to this village. She thanks them and says she’s looking foward to the summer festival before leaving.
Finally it was the day of the summer festival. Rin meets Mari there and introduces her to both Yomi and Uta. Mari realizes those are the two Ayakashi that live with Rin and wonders which one is Rin’s boyfriend LOL. Rin tells her she doesn’t have that sort of relationship with them and Mari’s all “Now, now don’t be shy about it.” She guesses it may be Uta and he’s all “Why would I like a gloomy woman like her!?” though Yomi makes a comment about him being a lot more protective of her than he was LOL. Anyway, Rin tries to correct her but then Hagi and Kei arrive. It’s then Hagi makes it an announcement that he’s Rin’s boyfriend. Rin gets completely embarrassed since he said so very loudly. Mari was quite surprised and didn’t notice at all while she was with the two. She says they make a good match and wonders if they’ve kissed already. Uta’s all “Oh, yeah we even witnessed it ourselves!” though Rin gets all embarrassed and says they watched without permission. Mari calls Rin bold though and teases her not to be so shy. Yomi comments on Mari being a female version of Hagi lol. Anyway, Rin changes the subject by saying they should visit the stalls. So Mari decides to drag Kei along with her.
So Rin, Hagi, Kei, and Mari all decide to look at the stalls together. Kei is in awe since it’s the first time he’s been to a festival. They decide to scoop goldfish and Mari ends up getting Kei all wet when she tries. She then notices a takoyaki stall and drags Kei along with her to eat some. Once they come back they notice Mari trying to feed Kei some takoyaki and he’s all shy about it. She gives him that evil glare again so he finally gives in and eats it. And of course, he finds it very delicious since it’s the first time he’s ever had one. Mari then pulls him off again to play with Yoyo’s and try a haunted house. After the two leave together Rin and Hagi decide to spent some alone time together and have some shaved ice near the shrine. They talk about making fond memories together and how their happiest memories are while they’re together. Suddenly, while Rin and Hagi are having a romantic moment and are about to kiss, Mari appears. She apologizes for interrupting but she lost sight of Kei and he ran off after she told him she may not be able to come back to the village for a while but she promises to try and meet him again. Rin suggests he may have remembered “Yume” and Mari does remember him muttering that name when she first met him. Rin explains that “Yume” was someone he fell in love with over the course of five days. Rin realizes that making a “promise” like that must’ve scared Kei. But Mari doesn’t think he should brood over the past so much and yells out that she’s going to try and find him. Hagi thinks it’s too dangerous for her to go out to the mountains on her own so they follow after her.
So they try to search for Kei in the mountains. Finally, they spot him and he tells Mari to stay away. He doesn’t hate Mari, but making a promise to see him again when she may die scares him. He doesn’t want to have to wait endlessly again like he did for Yume in the past. Mari stands there for a moment before saying “Okay” and once she walks off, she turns right back around and gives Kei a roundhouse kick. Kei’s shocked and wonders why she did that but she then grabs him by the collar and asks him the same thing. She’s living now and doesn’t want to be compared to “Yume” since that’s not her. She’s going to get through her operation and live in order to come back to the village again. She also tells him that it was him who taught her many different things in the village. He was the most beautiful light she’d lay eyes uupon and wants to see many more beautiful things with him. She wanted his encouragement for her operation so she could try her best. She starts crying and when Kei points it out she’s all “I’m not crying!” and calls him an idiot lol. Once they walk back they notice fireworks going off. As they watch the fireworks Rin and Hagi notice that Kei and Mari are watching them while holding hands.
On the last day of summer break they were waiting for Mari who was spending her last day of her break at the village today. Mari comes to say goodbye to Rin and the others and explains she didn’t like the idea of coming to such an old-fashioned village at first, but she’s really glad she did since she could meet all of them. Rin prays for the success of her surgery and just before she’s about to leave Kei calls out her. He makes a promise that he’ll always be waiting for her to return so he can see her again. He pushes her back and she starts running as they give their farewells. Later that day Hagi asks what Rin thinks about love between a human an Ayakashi. Rin doesn’t think it’s simple because of their differences, but knows their feelings are genuine and important to one another. Rin and Hagi then share a ラブラブ moment under the sunset.
Summer vacation was over and Hagi decided on doing a play again for the cultural festival. The play with the most votes was Cinderella so they pull names out a of a hat to decide the roles. Uta is the evil step-mother, Yomi is the prince, Suou is the magician, and Rin is Cinderella ((wowow what are the chances???)). Anyway, Rin is nervous about being in front of a crowd but is going to try her best. So they begin practicing ((Uta’s take on the stepmother is pretty hilarious I might add)) and Rin starts off very stiff. Though she makes progress day by day and is able to improve. One day they decide to practice by Hagi’s shrine. Though it ends up becoming a mess with everyone yelling at each other and fooling around. Suddenly Manatsu comes over and notices that the cherry blossom petal in Hagi’s eye had become much smaller. Manatsu doesn’t believe there’s anything wrong, but makes sure to be on the look out. After practice Hagi and Rin return home together. Hagi is looking foward to seeing Rin in a dress and hopes to raise Rin’s confidence more. It’s suddenly a random older man appears and does something to Hitotsumekozou. The man believes the beings are evil though Hagi tells him otherwise. He thinks he’s foolish and just walks away. They then take Hitotsumekozou back to Gin’s in order to recover. Gin explains it must’ve been the work of a witch doctor. They detest the existence of Ayakashi and try to wipe them out. Hagi doesn’t understand why they’d harm such harmless Ayakashi but some humans consider an existence they don’t understand to be evil.
The next day Hitotsumekozou is completely recovered. And because of what happened they decide to warn other Ayakashi of that man they spotted the other day. A few days later Hagi and Rin run into the same guy accepting an envelope from someone. Apparently it’s money for exterminating, or rather, sealing Ayakashi. He tells them not to get in his way and then Hagi starts yelling at him for harming them but Rin tells him to calm down. She understands how he feels but they can’t just change someone’s views on Ayakashi so easily.
When Rin gets home she meets Sagiri there. She tells him about the man she encountered. Rin realizes it’s a bit of a sensitive subject to her because she herself was sealed before. She apologizes but Sagiri tells her not to. She attacked many humans after all and was sealed due to that. Though it’s a miracle now that they’re able to get along now. And so she goes onto the subject about the cultural festival.
The next day Rin continues to practice for the play with everyone. After Yomi and Uta leave, Rin and Hagi encounter the man again. Apparently he was asked to seal a Jorogumo on the loose. In other words, Sagiri. He’s been unable to find their location but feels there’s a good chance he’ll find them at the cultural festival. Once he leaves, Rin is really anxious about Sagiri being sealed again. So she tries to go warn her but can’t find her anywhere. After searching the entire day for her, they find her back at Ponpokorin. Rin then warns her about the man and tells her not to come to the cultural festival. But Sagiri won’t be having that and she doesn’t care if she’s sealed because she’s looking forward to seeing Rin perform as Cinderella.
The next day Rin goes to the place where she first met Sagiri with Hagi. She talks about how she’s changed since she first met her. She starts crying and Hagi comforts her. It’s then that man appears again and Hagi asks why the heck he hates Ayakashi so much. Though he’s all “Oh, you’re kids so you don’t understand” and just as he’s about to leave, Hagi grabs his arm. A bright light appears and Hagi’s eye begins to hurt as the petal of the cherry blossom appears in his eye. Hagi then reveals his name to be “Eiji” and he understands why he hates Ayakashi. It’s because someone important to him was killed by one. He understands how the death of someone important to him could change him, but he won’t allow his grudge involve other harmless Ayakashi in the village. But he don’t care and will exterminate them by any means. Once he leaves, Hagi explains Eiji’s past to Rin.
He grew up in the village and could always see Ayakashi. So Basically people feared him because of this and he has a sob story of being deserted by his parents and no one ever loving him. One day though he meets a woman named Chie and tells her that he can see Ayakashi. She thinks it’s amazing though and accepts him. Though suddenly a strange Ayakashi appeared near where they lived. He won’t leave unless Eiji gives him the heart of the woman he’s always with. And so in order to keep Chie safe, he confines her to their home. And one day when he comes home Chie apologizes to him and tells him to find happiness. She says it’s fine to give up on her already. He tells her he wants her by his side forever so he can protect her. It’s then the Ayakashi appears from the shadows and kills her by extracting her heart and eating it. He tried to kill the Ayakashi with a knife but he already escaped. When one of the neighbors witnessed the situation they called the police and Eiji was convicted of the crme. He tried to defend himself and claim it was an Ayakashi that killed her but no one believed him of course and so he was sent to prison. And after he was finally released he learned many skills in order to exterminate Ayakashi for revenge.
On the day of the festival everyone is anxious about Sagiri so they all decide to try and look for her. Rin then gets a bad feeling and heads for the hill. There she finds Eiji facing Sagiri. She asks him to wait until the play is over but obviously Eiji doesn’t hesitate to try and seal her. Just as Rin tries to interfere, Hagi stops her and tells her to stay back. He then runs over to Eiji and begs him not to seal Sagiri since she’s an important friend of Rin’s. He tells him he understand how he feels about Ayakashi, but Sagiri has already made amends for the things she’s done. Unfortunately, none of it gets through to him and he just keeps telling Hagi to shut up. It’s then a sudden white light emits and it shows a past memory of Eiji and Chie. Just before she died, she tells him her feelings and changes into her Ayakashi form. So apparently she was never human to begin with and was actually an Ayakashi. Eiji can’t believe it and starts screaming. The flashback ends and Yomi and Uta have a hold on Eiji. Hagi asks them to release him and begs him to leave Sagiri alone. He asks why she’s so important to him and Hagi says it’s because she’s very important to Rin. He doesn’t get him at all but finally leaves.
After the cultural festival is over and they do the play they come home to ponpokorin to celebrate. They all praise Rin and Yomi for making a great princess and prince. Afterwords, Rin talks with Sagiri outside. Hagi then appears and they talk about Eiji and how he both loved and hated Ayakashi. He hopes that both humans and Ayakashi can come to an understanding of one another. And so Hagi is going to keep treasuring Ayakashi for as long as he can. Hagi then asks Rin if he can dance with her because he was jealous Yomi did during the play. Rin accepts and so they dance and Rin says Hagi will always be her prince.
The next day Rin and Hagi meet Eiji at the station. Hagi asks where he’s headed and apparently he’s going home since he’s done of his work in this village. So he’s given up on trying to seal Sagiri. Rin thanks him but he says he still will continue to exterminate Ayakashi in other places and still plans to return to the village. Hagi tells him he understands and he won’t try and change his view on Ayakashi. Even so, if he tries to seal any Ayakashi important to him, he’ll make sure to stop him. Eiji then notices that the power in his right eye allows him to see Ayakashi. He can tell that power is starting to fade which surprises Hagi. He walks off and Hagi watches him leave in silence.
It’s finally Winter; Rin and Hagi are studying hard for their exams. Hagi is going to be busy for New Years at the shrine so he requests for Rin to work part-time at his shrine like she did last year. So Rin does so and puts on shrine maiden clothes for New Years. Rin meets up with Hagi and the others and they all enjoy amazake together. Hagi didn’t greet the other Ayakashi right away though so it’s clear his power is starting to fade. And so, they all countdown to the New Year. That night Hagi wants to see the sunrise of the New Year with Rin. So they both meet up and hold each other to keep warm in the cold. Rin talks about making a delicious meal in the morning for everyone. She notices Hagi look a bit gloomy and he admits that during the start of winter he’s been unable to clearly see Ayakashi as well as he used to and can only see them if he tries hard to focus on them. Though he knows it’s only a matter of time before his power to see them truly disappears. Hagi does find it lonesome that he’ll no longer be able to see them. But even if he can no longer see them, the memories he’s had with all them will always remain. He’s thankful he gained this power but is mostly thankful to Rin since it’s thanks to her he gained it. And so they both thank each other for being in each other’s lives. Finally, they see the sunrise of the new year and he asks for his first kiss of the year. And so they kiss while both confessing their love to each other.
Winter break was over so Rin and Hagi finally took their exams with the encouragement of their fellow Ayakashi friends. And so, Rin and Hagi eventually find out they passed and got accepted into the same university. This makes them realize they’re going to graduate soon and feel a bit sad thinking about leaving the village. But regardless they’ll always get to see each other and new encounters still await them.
It’s finally spring and time for Rin and Hagi to leave the village. They meet everyone at the station including all the Ayakashi and Sui who they helped a while back. They promise to visit after four years and graduating university. They all bid them farewell and suddenly a giant gust of wind blows through them. It’s then Hagi realizes he can no longer see Ayakashi but makes an excuse some dirt got in his eye. Rin and Hagi finally depart on the train. Hagi explains to Rin that he can now no longer see Ayakashi anymore. It only lasted a year and Hagi wishes it lasted longer. Apparently seeing all the interactions between human and Ayakashi made Hagi realize his dream. He wanted to graduate from university and build a counselling office for Ayakashi. That way he could listen to each Ayakashi’s problems and think of a way to solve them. But since he can no longer see them he doesn’t feel like he can. But Rin tells him she can see them so she’ll help him fulfil his dream. Hagi admits that even if he can no longer see them, he’ll never forget them. Hagi finally lets out his tears and starts crying.
Best End
—
Years pass and both Rin and Hagi graduate from university. Before long they returned to the village and got married. Hagi is a shinto priest at his family’s shrine. They fulfilled their dream of opening the Ayakashi counselling office and Rin supports Hagi the best she can at the shrine. One night while Rin is making dinner in the kitchen, Hagi sneaks a hug from behind. He exclaims how lucky he is to come home to his lovely wife who makes delicious meals. They talk about how their family is going to become even bigger and can’t wait to meet their child. The two ayakashi then leave nuts for both Hagi and Rin in support of their baby. And so they promise to live happily ever after.
Good End
—
After four years, Rin and Hagi pass university and return to the village. Hagi became the Shinto priest and is having his marriage ceremony with Rin. Everyone praises the two and see how much they’ve grown. A gust of wind suddenly passes and for a moment, Hagi can see and hear all the Ayakashi congratulate him and Rin. And so Hagi thanks them for coming.
Bad End
—
Hagi is thrown to the ground and Eiji is able to successfully seal Sagiri. Hagi flips out and rages at Eiji to return her the way she was. He tries to punch him but Eiji is able to throw him off. Eiji calls him pathetic then walks away as Hagi screams in agony. Time passes and Hagi is in deep depression as his power to see Ayakashi is fading away. Rin and Hagi’s relationship had been deteriorating as well. One day Hagi wakes up in the middle of the night. He can stand not being able to see Ayakashi so he goes to the brook where he made the wish. He begs to the river to give him the power to see Ayakashi again. Hagi then saw a cherry blossom in the water and tries to reach for it. But when he does, he falls into the water and drowns. ლ(ಥ Д ಥ )ლ
Thoughts: Aaah, Hagi is so sweet and energetic. He’s pretty much the same as he is from the first game. And while I have no qualms on Hagi himself, I do feel there could’ve been certain things done to his route to make it better. I reeeally liked Mari, she was such a great support character. I’m really disappointed you don’t find out what happens to her. I mean, does she survive the operation?? Who the heck knows cause we don’t find out. ┐(´д`)┌ And I’m not gonna lie, the romance felt more centered on Mari and Kei half the time than it did with Hagi and Rin. Tbh, I was enjoying their romance more than Rin and Hagi’s ((they were so cute together I mean come on)). And Hagi is not a bad character by any means, but once they hooked up idk I didn’t feel much between the two. I love them both a lot but their moments felt kinda lacking and was only present a lot more near the end ((that’s when they shoved in a lot of CGs too)). Especially the whole Eiji drama. Idk, it felt too quick and anti-climatic.
The CGs were nice though even if the rest of them were kinda squeezed in nearing the very end of the route. Also, where the heck was Sakura??? You have a whole entire route centered around this girl and she doesn’t appear once in the FD?? She’s his freaking sister. I mean she was mentioned like once but I find it weird they wouldn’t have her in the game at all. The play they were doing for the festival was really rushed too, I would’ve liked to see them act it out or have it show Rin in costume. The whole Eiji bit felt kinda shoehorned in there for some side drama cause nothing really too dramatic happened. I’ll admit though, Hagi’s end was pretty sad and when yo man starts crying thats when you know shit is real. So basically this route felt very focused on other Ayakashi. And that’s not really a bad thing, but for a FD, you kinda do expect some more ラブラブ scenes because it’s a FD. Anyway, the highlight of this route for me was Mari. I really adored her as a character. It confuses me why they’d introduce her but not show her at the end or something… Ah, well…. ┐(○`ε´○)┌
