あやかしごはん Ayakashi Gohan ~ Haginosuke

I finished this much quicker than I anticipated. But I finally got bro-ginosuke’s route done. He has 3 ENDs as usual but apparently you can’t get his best END until you finish Asagi’s route. Sigh….

Haginosuke is Rin’s classmate and an Ayakashi enthusiast. His mother died when he was young so he lives at his shrine with his father. He has a very optimistic and cheerful personality at school but surprisingly has a hard time eating with everyone else. He warms up to Rin fairly quick though because of their similar personalities. He’s voiced by Takahiro Mizushima.

Winter break was going on and Rin hadn’t seen Haginosuke since the closing ceremony. Though coincidentally one day she went shopping and saw him there. He was there since his shrine had been pretty busy this time of year and wanted a bit of a break. Rin asks if there’s any way she can help since he’s so busy and Haginosuke suggests she works part time as a shrine maiden which she agrees to try and do. Rin’s not so confident she can do it but Haginosuke encourages her saying she’d definitely make a cute shrine maiden and he’ll call her tonight. After she gets home she gets a call from him asking to come tomorrow at night and she agrees. After she gets off the phone she tells Gin she’s going to work as a part time shrine maiden and Gin wishes her good luck.

The next day Rin visits the shrine with Haginosuke to start her part time job as a shrine maiden. Haginosuke introduces Rin to his dad and he remembers heras that girl that Haginosuke is fond of. Rin gets a bit embarrassed and Haginosuke tells him not to say unecessary things. He wishes her the best and then Haginosuke introduces Rin to the other shrine maidens she’ll be working with. An older one named Koyama asks Rin is Haginosuke’s girlfriend and Rin and him just stand there awkwardly unable to answer before Haginosuke decides to get away with Rin. He then apologizes saying they didn’t mean any harm of course. Right after that Kami-sama appears asking why Rin’s there so early in the morning. Rin tells him she’s working part time as a shrine maiden and he tells her to have fun and walks off. Haginosuke says he’s a stange child and Rin’s like “Yeah, he sure is…” though obviously knowing she can’t tell him he’s a god.

While Rin is working inside she helps Koyama with cooking a meal. Though Koyama gets asked out by another shrine maiden so she ends up doing it herself. Haginosuke comes over to watch and she tells him she’s making fried rice. He watches her a bit and Rin tells him to just wait until she finishes it since she feels a bit embarrassed to have him watching while she makes it. He laughs saying its cute but she scolds him and tells him to go and wait already. Soon Rin finishes making a lot of food for everyone and Rin, Haginosuke, and the other shrine maidens sit down to eat together. One of the girls say that Haginosuke’s girlfriend is such a great cook and both Rin and him choke on their food. He forces a laugh telling them not to trouble her though its clear he was a bit awkward and wasn’t sure how to answer.

Soon it gets dark and Haginosuke walks Rin home. He apologizes for having her make food but she didn’t mind. He was really glad to be able to see her in a apron and can’t wait to see her in shrine maiden clothes now. Once she gets home Gin asks how her job was and she says it was fun but very tiring. She then helps him with dinner and notices she has blisters from working so hard.

The next day Rin is working really hard at the shrine again. While she’s sweeping up, Kami-sama greets her and gives her some encouragement. Several more days pass and now its finally New Year’s Eve. Rin finally puts on her Shrine Maiden outfit and walks outside to see Haginosuke. Though he’s in a whole lot of shock to see her in it. He says it suits her really well and she looks very pretty in it. Rin’s a bit nervous but Haginosuke encourages her saying he knows she’ll do fine. A little while later the shrine is filled with a lot of people. Rin is selling charms to various worshippers that visited. Koyama then urges Rin to take a break and finds Uta, Yomi, and Suou by the stalls. Apparently Gin sent them to check up on her. They notice her clothes and don’t think they look so bad on her. Soon Haginosuke arrives telling them that he knows Rin looks cute but they shouldn’t hit on her. Obviously they all deny it and say they have no interest in her. Since he’s on his break Haginosuke suggests they all eat some red bean soup together.

While drinking down their soup they notice it’s passed midnight and all wish each other a Happy New Year. Later that night Rin spends the night at Haginosuke’s shrine after working there. She can’t sleep and ends up having a dream where a boy is talking to his mother and wondering when his little sister will be born since he plans to be a good ol’ onii-chan. Rin wakes up and felt the boy seemed familiar but can’t recall who it is.

The next morning Gin comes to visit Rin while she’s working in the shrine for New Years. He gives him a lucky charm and Gin suggests that she gives Manatsu a “traffic safety” one since he’s always falling off his motorcycle.

Three days later it’s the 3rd of January and Rin is on her final day of working as a shrine maiden. Haginosuke’s father thanks Rin for her help and gives her a brown envelope with her pay. He also says he has another reward for her and its a reward of thanks for keeping Haginosuke company since he seemed to have a lot of fun around her. Rin awkwardly hesitates to answer and Haginosuke appears wondering if she’s leaving yet. He notices her troubled look and asks what his father was talking about. He tells him he was giving his thanks and Rin notices that there’s an odd air of hostility between the two.

Before returning home Rin buys some charms for everyone at home. She then walks back with Haginosuke on her way home. Haginosuke says Rin is really kind to spend her part time pay on everyone else when she just got it today. Rin then remembers how he and his dad were kind of cold towards each other back at his house and she says she’s a bit curious as to why that is. She wondered if they had a fight but he tells her that’s not the case. They’ve always been that way with each other ever since his mother died. Rin apologizes for meddling into his business but he says its okay. He felt her death was a bit strange and thinks she might’ve been an Ayakashi. Rin is curious as to why he thinks this and he decides to tell her his story.

When Haginosuke was sill very young his mother died in an accident. His little sister was still in her stomach at the time. Her expected date of birth was February 1st, which was the same day he was born as well. One day in December his mother was driven by his father to get a get a regular medical examination. Before she left was the last time he had seen her. He was waiting all day for her to come home from the hospital with his grandmother but never came back. His grandmother then received a phone call that his mother had been in an accident and died. Their car collided with a truck on their way to the hospital. His father made it out alive with several injuries but his mother had died with his sister inside her stomach. At the time Haginosuke hadn’t understood what it meant for her to die and then a mysterious thing happened. His mother’s dead body had suddenly disappeared at the hospital. People were frightened and thought it may have been an act of Ayakashi but no one really understood it. In the end his mother’s body was never found and they held a funeral for her while his father was still in a coma. But even after the funeral his father did not wake up. He lived with his grandmother but she was depressed and locked herself up in her room while Haginosuke ate all his meals by himself. He still questioned why his mother had still not returned and waited by the house everyday until she came home. Then on February 1st he was determined to find his mother so he decided to go look for her himself. He looked all over town but couldn’t find her anywhere. He then wondered if maybe she got lost in the forest and looked until it got dark. He then decided to take a break and eat his some of his food he brought. It wasn’t enough though and he was still hungry. He sat down crying to himself wondering where his mom is while saying he wants to eat her cooking again. All too soon he ends up falling asleep in the cold snowy night and has a strange dream. His mother had just given birth to his little sister that they named Sakura with his whole family there. Once waking up from his dream he finds his mother laying there beside him. He cries while telling her to wake up and realizes that this is what his grandmother meant when he told him that his mother had died.

After words they were finally able to cremate her body for her grave. After his mother’s death his relationship with his family became bitter. So he hadn’t been able to enjoy meals with everyone. But even though everything had been settled, he still doesn’t know what happened to his mother’s body between those two months before she was found. To begin with her body looked the same moments before death even when he found her months later. The strangest thing is though is that his younger sister had disappeared from her stomach. Nobody knows why it all happened but he still suspects she may have been an Ayakashi. Rin asks if that’s the reason why he’s so interested in Ayakashi and he says it is. He wants to find an Ayakashi that may have known his mother so he can find out the truth of what happened. Apparently his only family is his father now and his grandmother died when he was in junior high. He then suggests that they head home since its getting quite dark already.

Once Rin gets home she gives Uta and Yomi the charms she bought. They tell her how they don’t need something like this but before she can take them away from them they say its fine since she spent her hard working money on them. Gin and Suzuri then appear and Rin gives them charms as well. Suddenly Suou pops out of the kotatsu and says “What about me?” And he gives him one too ((pff)).

During dinner Rin ends up thinking about what Haginosuke told her. Gin notices she looks anxious and asks if she’s okay. She tells him she’s worried about Haginosuke and everyone puts down their chopsticks and stares at her. They realize she’s at “that” sort of age with love sickness and all that. Rin’s confused and asks “Wait–what are we talking about?!”  They suggest helping her out and wish her good luck. Later that day Rin finds Suzuri drawing a picture of Haginosuke.

Soon Winter break has ended and the third term has started. Uta, Yomi, and Rin are on their way to school where they encounter Haginosuke. Just as he appears Yomi tells Uta they should go on ahead and leave Rin and Haginosuke to themselves. Haginosuke wonders why they left early but Rin says she has no idea. He then tells her that the shrine has settled down quite a bit and thanks to her help it all went smoothly. During class Rin finds herself watching Haginosuke and wonder to herself whether she should tell him she sees Ayakashi since that may make his search a lot easier. During lunch, Haginosuke asks Rin to eat lunch with her and everyone else. But they notice the other three (Uta, Yomi, and Suou) all huddled together and decided to go out to the hill and leave them alone. Haginosuke and her find it strange they’d go outside in such cold weather but decide to eat lunch with just the two of them. Later they all decide to study in a separate classroom and Uta, Suou, and Yomi start arguing about how different stories go. So they all leave to the library leaving Haginosuke and Rin confused.

After school Uta, Suou, and Yomi all say they left something in the classroom leaving both Rin and Haginosuke to return on their own. It carried on for a week and finally on a Friday during lunch Rin asks them all what the heck is going on. Though when she asks about it they simply play dumb and say they have no idea what she’s talking about. Rin says there definitely is something going on and she calls Uta an idiot. He reveals he’s trying to help her with Haginosuke and as soon as he can explain he pops out of the classroom saying “What about me?”. They’re all like “OH GOOD TIMING” and set up him and Rin with a secret date for Saturday. They’re all confused and Rin tells them not to decide without permission but Uta is able to persuade a confused Haginosuke into it. So on Saturday Rin will be going out with Haginosuke.

The day before Rin’s “date”, Rin tells Gin she won’t be there for most of the day since she’s going out with Haginosuke. He laughs and tells Sagiri who’s visiting their shop as well. She’s all excited and happy for Rin and tells her she needs to look her absolute best. So she says to leave it all to her. The next morning Sagiri greets Rin at 7:00 in the morning to get her all prepared for her date with make-up and clothes. After she’s done Sagiri’s all proud and think Rin looks absolutely adorable so she shows her off to everyone downstairs and they’re all surprised to see her. Uta suddenly comes in too with all the commotion and is all “Woah! Who are you?!”.

Once Rin reaches the meeting spot where she and Haginosuke are to meet she’s greeted by him. He’s all surprised and blushes upon seeing her all dressed up like that. Rin says a friend did it for her and he says it suits her and she looks very cute. She awkwardly thanks him and they’re sort of in a awkward silence before he interrupts it by telling her that they should get going now.

They walk around the river and Haginosuke apologizes saying it must be boring just walking around. Rin says its not true at all though and she enjoys walking around with him. He’s all surprised to hear her say that and looks away while blushing. He then tells her that it may have been rude of him but he never really thought of her as a girl until he saw her all dressed up. It even gave him  ドキドキ and now they’re on a date together. Immediately after saying so he blushes and says “Wait what the heck am I saying?! Just forget all of that!” and blushes while waving his hands.

Soon the two are walking up the mountain together and Rin realizes she’s really happy hanging out with just the two of them. Haginosuke points out the area in the forest is where he found his mother. Rin debates on whether she should ask Haginosuke to go check it out since she could possibly help. But before she can do so she see’s a girl who resembles Haginosuke in a way.

But she soon disappears right after she sees her. Rin asks Haginosuke if he saw her but he says he didn’t see anyone. He then suggests they head back since the forest gets pretty dangerous when its late.

Once she returns home Uta and Yomi are eagerly awaiting her “report” of her date. Though Rin says it’s not like they’re dating and just goes to her room since she’s tired. She then starts thinking about the girl she saw and wonders why she looks like Haginosuke.

After school Rin realizes she doesn’t have a book to read and some girls at school tell her about a bookstore that has a lot of used books. Rin goes there with Uta and Yomi and is amazed by their selection and ends up buying like 20 books but for a good price. Just as she purchases them the bookseller notices Uta and Yomi must be Ayakashi to whom they’re surprised he noticed. He says that there’s quite a few Ayakashi that visit regularly at the bookstore. Just then a girl named Sakura walks in the shop and greets their man calling him her grandfather. She’s the same girl Rin saw in the forest and realizes that “Sakura” is the same  name that Haginosuke’s little sister was in that dream he told her about. Soon she leaves the shop all anxious about it.

The next couple of days Rin visits the shop again to speak to the bookseller about Sakura. He’s reluctant to speak abou her and tells Rin she’s his granddaughter and there’s nothing else to speak about. Soon she visits again saying she’s finished her books and buys 10 more. She’s about to mention Sakura but he tells her if she has no more business there that she should hurry up and leave. Reluctantly she does so.

After that several days pass. Haginosuke notices that Rin has been leaving to go somewhere a lot after school. She tells him there’s this bookstore she’s found recently that she likes to visits. Haginosuke says she must love books since he always sees her reading one during her breaks and she says she really does. She then heads off to the bookstore again where Uta get’s all annoyed and wonders the real reason why she’s visiting so much. She says she’ll tell him eventually and he get’s mad and ends up showing his ayakashi doggy ears. Rin then see’s Sakura and tells him to put away his ears but she says its okay since she can see Ayakashi too. She then invites the two to drink tea and talk with her. She mentions the shop is closed and her grandfather has fallen sick so they use the back entrance. There she serves tea and asks Rin why she’s been visiting so much lately. Rin says it’s because she really likes books and Sakura says she’s happy to hear that. Once she smiles Uta notices that she looks a lot like Haginosuke and Rin’s surprised to hear that Uta agrees as well. Rin then decides to ask whether she knows Haginosuke and she says she doesn’t. Uta says they could be long lost siblings and Sakura laughs saying she’s actually an only child. Her parents died and her grandfather raised her. She says it’s probably because of her grandfather’s blood that she can see Ayakashi. Rin realizes that Haginosuke can’t see Ayakashi so it must be true. Sakura tells them she’d like to meet Haginosuke since she supposedly looks like her and they say they’ll try and introduce her sometime. Soon Sakura’s grandfather appears and tries to shoo Rin and Uta away. Sakura tells him to calm down since he’s in a bad condition and Rin says it’s fine and  they’ll leave. While Rin and Uta are walking home Uta mentions that Sakura smelled a little like an Ayakashi but may have just been imagining it.

The next day Haginosuke asks Rin if she plans on going to the bookstore today. Rin’s not sure if she wants to and Uta walks over saying there’s a girl there that looks like him. Once he says her name is Sakura he jerks at hearing the name. Rin is all in a panic and pulls Haginosuke out of the classroom the explain the situation to him. She tells him about how she met Sakura at the store and was curious about it as well. She’d asked her if she knew of him but said she didn’t and she’s an only child. So she thinks it’s most likely a coincidence. Nevertheless Haginosuke is very curious and asks Rin to take him there to meet her. Rin tells Uta that she’s going to the bookstore with Haginosuke so he doesn’t need to come this time. He doesn’t protest though since he doesn’t want to interrupt their alone time ((lol)).

Once they arrive at the shop the bookseller is very surprised to see Haginosuke since he notices that he really does look a lot like Sakura. Haginosuke tells him he wants to tell the story about his mother where he agrees that he’ll listen. Some time after he tells the old bookseller about his mother. He wants to find an Ayakashi to tell him the truth. He finally decides to tell him what he knows. Apparently Sakura isn’t really his granddaughter but a child that was entrusted to him by an Ayakashi a while back. He’d told him already that he can see Ayakashi and apparently one had knocked on his door with a baby in their arms. They asked for him to protect the child since they don’t know how to raise a human child. They had taken over a human body and given birth to it them self. A mountain princess named Mine possessed the body of a woman who was pregnant with a child. She looked into the woman’s memories and saw she had a happy family once will another child. So she took pity on the woman and decided to birth the child herself. She asked the other Ayakashi to lend her power and was able to nourish the baby within the dead body. And at the start of February the child was finally born. It was a young girl and Mine was very pleased. However, maintaining the woman’s body took a great amount of her power. As she was nearing her own death, she heard the voice of a small boy somewhere. She instinctively knew the voice of the boy being the older brother of the younger girl. She wanted to insert some memories into the boys mind so she made him fall asleep. Though after squeezing out the last of her power she had died before she could give him his younger sister. The baby was left alone in the forest until a crow ayakashi whom knew Mine found it. They brought it to the bookseller and said Mine had called her Sakura. So he decided to take care of her as his own granddaughter. Mine had left the woman with the boy on Feburary 1st which was the same day Sakura was scheduled to be birthed. He tells them that she can see Ayakashi but it’s probably because Mine left that power with her. He never expected her brother to appear and feels she should be left with her real family now. Haginosuke isn’t sure what to do but the bookseller says he’ll give it some thought as well and tells him to visit again sometime.

Once Haginosuke and Rin leave they both silently walk home for a while. He finally says he never would’ve thought that his younger sister would be alive. Rin asks if he wants to meet Sakura and he says he does but he’s afraid to. He’s afraid of being rejected by her and having the last relation to his mother disappear. Rin suddenly grabs his hand and says it’s not like him to be so timid. She believes he has the power to change people’s minds. She’s proof of that since she used to be so gloomy but after talking to him for a while she feels much happier. No matter how many times he loses his confidence she’ll always be there to help and support him. He tells her it was pretty shocking how gloomy she was. She then apologizes quickly and he laughs saying he’s joking. He thanks her saying he feels like he can do anything after hearing her say that. He squeezes her hand back and Rin gets terrible ドキドキ feels when seeing his smile. He then asks why she kept quiet the whole time she was visiting and she says it’s because she didn’t have definite proof yet. He then thanks her again for working so hard for his sake.

Later that night Rin thinks to herself how it may be hard for Sakura to come to that choice of picking actual blood family to non blood related family. If she found out suddenly that her mother was alive she wouldn’t know what to do since she’s enjoyed her life with Gin so much already.

Rin then visits Sakura the next day saying she’d like to talk to her. Apparently she’s in her second year of junior high. Sakura then asks why she asked to speak of her all of a sudden but not that she doesn’t enjoy talking to Rin. She says she’d like to get know her better though her real reason is to somehow get her and Haginosuke to meet somehow. A gust of wind blows by and Rin shivers. Sakura hands her some gloves and Rin wonders if she’ll be okay but she says she’s fine since she was born in the winter. She tells Rin she was born Feburary 1st and Rin suggests that she throws a birthday party for her. Sakura is surprised but really happy.

The next day Rin tells Haginosuke that she plans to have a party for Sakura’s birthday. Haginosuke says he’ll participate as well and Rin asks if he’ll help cook with her. He asks if that’s fine since she doesn’t like to be watched when cooking but she says it’s fine since it’s for Sakura’s sake. They decided they’ll make chirashi-zushi at Gin’s shop. Later, Rin is searching the forest for the Ayakashi that gave the bookseller to Rin. She wants to find more clues but is unable to find any so decides to continue her search later.

Soon Haginosuke arrives at Gin’s shop to prepare Sakura’s birthday dish with Rin. Once they finish preparing their dish they head over to the bookstore where Sakura is. There Haginosuke and Sakura greet each other for the first time and are fairly surprised at how they resemble each other. They go to the back of the shop and enjoy their chirashi-zushi together. Sakura thanks them for coming and tells them it was a very wonderful birthday. Haginosuke then hands her a gift which is a hair ornament with a cherry blossom design. After they leave Rin asks when he prepared that gift and he said it was his mother’s keepsake. Though he still hadn’t told her he’s her brother yet but Rin says there’s still plenty of time. He agrees and Rin asks how it was meeting her for the first time. He says she was a really nice girl and he’s happy she was raised in such a way. He’d always dreamed of eating a meal with his younger sister and today his dream more or less came true. He starts crying a bit and apologizes since he’s really happy right now. He thinks it’s pathetic for him to be crying but Rin doesn’t think so at all. She then lends him her support as he cries in her arms.

Once he stops crying, Sakura runs out of the shop asking them to wait. She tells them she saw a memory from the hair ornament Haginosuke gave her. A woman wore it and was considering giving it to her newborn child that was still in her stomach. She also planned to name the child “Sakura”. There was also a small boy named Ibuki beside her whom she treasured as well. She asks who’s ornament it was and Haginosuke tells her it was his mother’s and explains to her about everything. Sakura is in shock just before Haginosuke can touch her a light knocks back Haginosuke while she yells out that she can’t believe it. She says her only family is her grandfather so it can’t be true. Her form changes and she spits out some sort of gas. Rin forces Haginosuke to run away with her but he’s reluctant and calls out Sakura’s name. They run into the forest as Sakura chases them. Rin believes that somesort of power inside her from Mine must have triggered once she had a thought of doubt. Haginosuke asks why Rin is so calm after seeing her like that but Rin says she’ll it explain it to him later. For now they need to try and lure her away. Haginosuke then remembers that Manatsu taught him a sort of spell to cast away Ayakashi. Rin decides to use herself as bait to save him some time. And just as he’s about to cast it, he calls out to Rin to come over where he is. She tries to run towards him but is caught by Sakura. She’s about to attack her but Haginosuke ends up taking the blow to protect her.

Sakura is about to attack them again but Rin yells out to her to stop. She tells him that Haginosuke always wanted to see her and was so happy to find out she was alive. He was afraid he wouldn’t be accepted by her the entire time. But he’d always thought of her. He considered her feelings but she needs to consider his feelings as well. Since she’s his only older brother. She gazes at Haginosuke as if she’s starting to believe in her words but yells out again that she doesn’t want to believe it. But just as she’s about to attack again, Uta and Yomi fall down from the sky to help. Her bell had rung due to her being in danger so they knew to come. Once Haginosuke get’s himself together Uta and Yomi ask him to finish his spell’s formation while they distract her. Finally he’s able to use it and Sakura turns back to her original form. Haginosuke falls to the ground and lays unconscious as it begins to snow.

Several days pass and Haginosuke still hasn’t woken up. Rin has visited him every day so far to check up on him. She holds his hand praying he’ll wake up. He get’s weaker by the day and his father is worried as well. One day she visits again and asks his father if his condition has improved but it hasn’t. He does tell her that her presence would probably make him very happy though. She goes to his bedside and tells him that everyone at ponpokorin is worried about him. She starts lamenting over visiting the bookstore and meeting Sakura. She felt if she hadn’t he wouldn’t of gotten hurt this way. Just as she starts to cry she suddenly hears his voice. He weakly speaks and says he’s hungry. Rin calls him an idiot and starts sobbing while clinging to him as he pats her head.

Rin then comes back to his room with Rice porriage she made. His body is pretty weak from not eating for so many days so he asks her to feed him. She tells him if she’s teasing her she’ll get mad and he says he’s not. He asks her again and she says only for today. She’s all embarrassed to do it but feeds him while looking away. She asks how it was and he says it was really good. He tells her she’s really kind to him and thanks her for always being by his side.

Several more days pass and Haginosuke was able to eat on his own and everything returns to normal. Haginosuke finally goes outside and sits down with Rin. He asks what happened to Sakura and apparently she’s back at the bookstore like normal. Gin checked her out as well and she doesn’t have any of that Ayakashi’s power left inside her. He then mentions about that night and how he realized why Rin was so calm then. She can see Ayakashi, or she could’ve for a while now. Rin can hide it no longer and tells him that its true. And Gin, Uta, Uta, and Suou are all Ayakashi. She apologizes for deceiving him this entire time since he’d always wanted to meet an Ayakashi. She was always afraid to tell him. He tells her that he doesn’t believe she decieved him. It’s thanks to her and the others that Sakura was saved as well as himself and he’s thankful for it. But not only that, it’s also thanks to Rin that he was able to find out the truth about his mother and his younger sister. He feels he was very fortunate in meeting her. Rin is surprised since she felt it was her fault he got hurt but he says it isn’t at all and he’s truly thankful. She also thanks him for saving him at that time and he blushes hearing her say that. She says even she can praise him once in a while but he thinks she should praise him much more often.

They decided to return since it was getting cold and just before they do, Sakura arrives with her grandfather to meet with Haginosuke. Sakura apologizes to Haginosuke for what she did. She doesn’t remember it very well but her grandfather had told her what happened. She’d always felt a sense of incongruity the entire time. Her grandfather told her that her parents died but there was never any proof of them existing. She never resembled her dead grandmother either. Her only proof was that she could see Ayakashi like her grandfather. So she was really surprised when Haginosuke told her all of that. When she started having dark thoughts of how it couldn’t be possible, a power consumed her and made her attack them. When she returned to normal she heard two voices call out her name. She believes it was her real mother and Mine. Even though they’re both gone, she feels lucky to have had two mothers. Even her late grandmother and her grandfather are all family to her. She thanks him for telling her everything. They then have a cute sister/brother hug and her grandfather asks him to introduce them to his father to explain everything. Haginosuke invites Rin to come as well but she declines since it’s more of a family matter. Before she leaves she then asks Haginosuke over so she can give him something. She then hands him a birthday present and tries to run away since she’s embarrassed. But before she can Haginosuke grabs her arm and tells her to wait. He then kisses her forhead and says it was a reward of thanks. He then runs away (obviously hiding his embarrassment) and says bye to her. Rin just stands there dumbfounded and blushing madly.

While Rin is absentmindedly at the dinner table she doesn’t eat much and ends up giving her desert to Suzuri. Then there’s a knock at the door and it’s Haginosuke. She notices he’s using the gloves she gave him as a gift and he smiles saying he wanted to use them right away. He came to visit to tell her what happened. Apparently Sakura’s grandfather told his father everything. He found it hard to believe in Ayakashi but could tell at how serious they were that it was no lie. They then ate and talked together just like a normal family. Rin is glad that his wish to eat like a normal family came true and he says he is too. He then puts his hands on her cheek and she moves away. She’s embarrassed after what he did before and as he recalls it he asks if its when he kissed her. Rin says she never expected something like that from him and he apologizes saying she looked so cute that he couldn’t help it. He says she’s the only girl he’d like to touch (heh). Since she’s the first person he’d done something like that to before. She asks if the fact that she see’s Ayakashi is bad and he says he’s actually jealous of her. He wants her to tell him about all the sorts of Ayakashi she encounters. So he can meet the kind ones and protect her from the bad ones. He wants to protect her in his own way that’s different from Uta and Yomi. And so he finally confesses that he loves her.

Rin starts crying and Haginosuke get’s all flustered hoping he hadn’t troubled her with it but she says she’s only crying cause she’s really happy. He tells her she looks really cute when she cries happily and she tells him he’s so simple minded. But he tells her that she’s the only who could look so lovely that way since he only loves her. She calls him an idiot and he says he is an an idiot. He’s an idiot for not realizing he felt this way sooner. He then touches both her cheeks.

He says he won’t allow her to run away any longer. She should always be within his reach. She nods and then he gives her a kiss. But not on the forehead this time. ((no kiss cg i am disappoint)) So after that they’re all really strained and don’t think they’d be quite used to kissing quite yet. Suddenly, Uta and Yomi are heard shoving each other and fall out of the door. Rin is shocked though Haginosuke is pretty calm. Gin and Suzuri also come out and they all congradulate with Yomi saying “it’s about time.” Rin’s flustered calling them call “バカ” over and over again. Haginosuke thanks them all and says he’ll keep her happy. Just as things seem all that happy Haginosuke notices cherry blossom petals falling and gets these visions of the shrine being swallowed up by the earth and everything disappearing. He doesn’t know why he’s seeing this after such a happy event and is intrrupted by Rin telling him to say something. He then tells her they should probably not do this sort of thing so openly next time. But she calls him an idiot too and he apologizes while laughing. He then tells himself not to worry since there’s no need to be uneasy. He wants to continue being with Rin from now on and will look forward to their future together.

[[Apparently you can’t even get his best end until you do Asagi’s route. Kind of irritating in my opinion. But I’ll be sure to edit my routes once I finish Asagi’s route and see everyone else’s best ends again.]]

GOOD END

Several days passed since Haginosuke had woken up. The season soon changed to spring before they knew it. Rin, Haginosuke, and Sakura were all going up near the mountain to meet the crow Ayakashi that gave Sakura to her grandfather when she was a baby. Apparently Rin was able to find out where he was with Uta’s help. Soon they encounter him on a tree but Haginosuke and Sakura aren’t able to see him. Rin asks him to guide them to the place where he found Sakura and so he does. They set up a grave for Mine and the Ayakashi says its strange to see them putting up a grave for an Ayakashi. Rin tells them what he said and Haginosuke retorts it’s even stranger for him to help a human but he acts all tsundere about it. Both Haginosuke then thank him again for what he’d done and without him they wouldn’t have been able to meet. Though again he puts on his tsundere act saying he’d never do it again and flies away.

Later, Haginosuke thanks Rin for visiting with them though she was happy too. Sakura is still living with her grandfather but makes sure to regularly visit her actual father and Haginosuke. Rin passes by an Ayakashi and says hello to it while Haginosuke does the same even though he can’t see it. He wants to be able to experience the world Rin lives in with other Ayakashi. A breeze blows by so he holds her hand to keep her warm. Rin notices he grasps her hand much more casually now now that they’ve started dating. Though he wants to make sure he get’s used to it properly but Rin says he has plenty of time since they’ll always be together. Haginosuke’s stomach then rumbles since he’s pretty hungry. Rin asks if he wants to eat at ponpokorin but he says he’d rather eat her homemade dish instead. Rin says Gin’s food is much better than hers but he tells her nothing’s better than a boxed lunch made by a wife. He tells her she’s not his wife but he says “That’s true. Not yet anyway…”. So he grabs her hand and they go run off together.

BAD END

[[This after Haginosuke loses consciousness and doesn’t wake up]]

Several days pass and Haginosuke hasn’t woken up due to the Sakura’s miasma according to Gin.

March 3rd. Rin has a sad but happy dream. Haginosuke is waiting for Rin to make him something to eat for him. She wakes up and starts crying. Gin hears her in the other room and asks if she had a bad dream. She says it’s the opposite since she had such a happy dream she didn’t want to wake up. Gin then told her in that case she should go back to sleep. He does something to her that makes her very sleepy. She notices that Gin’s acted sadder than usual and finds herself drawn into a deep sleep while thinking of Haginosuke.

After Thoughts:

I surprisingly liked this route more than I thought I would. Haginosuke’s past was really interesting and you really feel bad for him after playing his route. It’s noticeably more focused on her human life with Haginosuke rather than with other Ayakashi. If I we’re to choose between whether I liked Uta’s or Haginosuke’s route more…TBH I’m not sure what I’d choose. I liked Uta more as a character but I felt Haginosuke was more suited for Rin. Not to mention their relationship seemed genuine because of their similarities. I could definitely see why they’d like each other.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t have an actual kiss CG. I haven’t unlocked the other two but I already know what they are. One of them is from his best end and the other I think is from the omake scenes. His bad ending was pretty creepy though. It wasn’t as heartbreaking dramatic as it could’ve been, but whatever Gin did kinda creeped me out. I’m wondering if he put her into an eternal sleep or something? Maybe since something was going to happen to the world anyway. (Based on Hagi’s visions? Idk) This is all assumption of course. I’ll probably understand it after doing Asagi’s route.
