And so I finally completed this trial! It took about a week to translate, revise, and edit. It’s not that long but I’d say it’d take about 30 minutes to an least an hour to do. Now I may have grammatical, translation, or friggin’ line break errors. But you know what? This was hard to do so I don’t even care. for someone who has never ever inserted text into a game before I’d say it’s better than what it could be.
So, onto the steps:
- You can download the trial here
- change your locale to Japanese if you don’t know already
- All you need to do is overwrite the Rio.arc with file with the one provided.
And hopefully it should work just fine! I tested it out myself so I’m pretty sure it should work.
Before anyone asks, if I’m doing a full translation, I DON’T KNOW.
I mean it’s possible but I have other things to worry about and not only that, but I haven’t even played the game yet. So for one thing I don’t even know how good this game’ll be. I liked the trial but once I have a full opinion on it and more free time, perhaps someday idk.
NOTE: I don’t know why, I couldn’t type a lowercase “c” into the name textbox. I’m really not sure why, I may have accidentally tampered with a file that did this??This is may just be my own error. Maybe if I re-installed my own game it’d be fixed lol. But I’m not sure. The default name is “ココロ” or Cocoro. So you couldn’t type her full name or any name for that matter with a lower case “c”. Sorry if this is an inconvenience.
A wonderful blogger figured out the whole lower case “c” issue! And I thank her greatly for that!
To put it shortly into her words:
“Before I begin, I found a way to get a lowercase “c” to work, hurrah! Normally, the patch will only let you type a capital case C when caps lock is off by pressing shift C. And no I didn’t translate the configure settings I’m sorry but I have no idea how to do that. I couldn’t find an image file to edit but It’s not hard to figure it out though. And I don’t think you really need to do much to the settings unless you wanna turn down the music so you can hear the voices better (which I do.)

Application initialization error. Hmm, it’s set to japanese locale right? Did you change it after installing? Maybe you could try uninstalling the game, changing the locale to japanese, then re-installing and see if that works?
Also make sure when you installed the game to see that the game folder “RE:Birthday Song” is in the honeybee folder in your program files.
That should be in your C drive > Program files > honeybee > Re：BIRTHDAY SONG～恋を唄う死神～（体験版）Cause once I took it out of my c drive onto my desktop and got the same error.
I have the same problem. I change the locale language to japanese and my laptop is all in japanese, but when I try to start the game I have that error. I don’t know why.

Please can you put a more detailed instalation guide because when I instaled the game obiusly the windows were in japanese so I only chose the options that were already chosen but it doesn’t work and I already tried to uninstall it but it doen’t work 😦
I didn’t put up an installation guide since installing it shouldn’t be too difficult. Once you click the rebs_trial application it should open up the blue installation window and all you need to do is click the next button (N) until it installs. Aside from that though, you’ll need to be more specific on the problem. Does the game not work even after it’s installed?
At first I had the same problem as May so I tried to uninstall it but I couldn’t and now there’s a different notice, I’ll send you the screen captures later because right now I can’t. And even without the patch it doesn’t work

hey! im having a little trouble with the game. i did everything you said to do, but for some reason i didn’t have a honeybee folder in my C drive. i can’t find the folder so i can replace the Rio.arc file to add the english patch, so my game is still in japanese 😦
Are you sure it’s not there? It’d be in your program files. But If you really don’t have the honeybee folder in your c drive then you either didn’t install the actual game or you installed it incorrectly somehow. Did you click the rebs_trial.exe? It brings up the blue window that installs the game. I know for sure if you do that the game should appear in the c drive. To make sure it’s actually installed though you can go to your control panel and click “uninstall a program” which’ll show whether or not you actually have the game installed.

Ah, someone else mentioned they had an issue when they saved. Does it crash when you try or does it just not work? Well, I never quick save so I only recently figured it out but there’s a short cut if you press F8 it’ll quick save and if you press F9 it’ll quick load. Maybe that’ll work?

Wait when you press F8 you hear a sound right? Press F9 right after it and a menu box will pop up (it’s in japanese) asking you if you want to quick load and click yes. It’ll then make another sound and load your quick save. I’m not sure why it won’t let you save though. Also there’s two save windows; a quick save one and a save one. Perhaps your’re on the quick save window, because if you are, you won’t be able to click any of the save spaces. To get off of it you just click a page number. Hmm strange…when I press F9 after quick saving I get a menu box like this (http://i.imgur.com/LLa05MT.png) that asks to quick load a quick save. Could you take a picture of the save menu for me? I suppose the only other thing I can suggest is either restarting your game/computer if you hadn’t already done so or uninstalling the trial and re-installing it again. And that’s okay I don’t mind trying to help out! I certainly would like to know what the cause of the problem.

Hm, it’s me, again restarted my computer and run the game, always the same problem. Then I uninstalled the game, installed it again, and the problem is still there ! So I download the trial files again, and made all one more time, ah surprise ! You’re welcome!~ Hm, a few others had this problem but it was because they didn’t replace the Rio.arc file with the one I provided. So you’re 100% sure you replaced it right? Does application work fine and is in Japanese? (and I assume your locale is in Japanese) If the application had any errors I could see why it wouldn’t work. Otherwise, I suggest unistalling and then reinstalling the trial and replacing the Rio.arc file again.

Hello! Um, I opened the rebs_trial (to test if it’s working) and it’s working, and in japanese because I haven’t replaced the Rio.arc. Wait so what you’re saying is that the game worked fine before you replaced the rio.arc file? And when you start it up and just shows a white screen? Hm, I don’t think I’ve encountered that problem before. Normally if there’s an error a window would pop up in Japanese and then it’d close the application. When you changed your locale to japanese you restarted your computer right? You could send me a picture or something and maybe I could get an idea of what it looks like when you start up the game.

Normally there would be a checked box that’d show up after installing to open up the game. Though if the game didn’t open up you may have to check your C: drive > program files > honeybee folder. If it installed successfully it’ll definitely be on your computer. Hope this maybe helps. ;w;
What is locale and do you have to change it? Also does this work on Mac ?thanks
The locale is basically the region you set your computer to. As for how to do it, if it’s windows Control Panel > Clock, Language, Region > Region > Administrative > Change System Locale
If you’re using a Mac I honestly don’t know. I’m sure if you google it, it’ll come up. And I’m not sure if it works on Mac since I don’t use one. Sorry D:

The arc file doesn’t have to be unzipped. You just replace the current one in the folder w/ the one I have provided.

I have my laptop language set to Japanese already so I don’t know it did that.

I’m not 100% sure on what the issue is, if you can send me a picture of the error then perhaps I can figure it out? One of the files could be corrupted maybe or blocked by an anti-virus program. re-downloading the trial is an option as well. Again, if you can send me a picture of the error I’ll try to help to figure it out. Your windows computer is compatible and all that.
